Higher education programs you can pursue online

By Remington College Posted January 26th, 2021

When you think about pursuing higher education, you might envision a bustling campus or lecture hall with plenty of fellow students. That might be the traditional way of looking at college, but with more options these days, that perception isn’t always the reality.

From a flexible schedule to cutting costs on commuting, there are plenty of reasons a student might opt for a fully-online or hybrid college experience. And you might be surprised at the number and types of programs offered.

Here are just a few of the programs you can pursue online.

HVAC classes online
If you enjoy working with your hands, HVAC training might be for you. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning technicians install, clean, inspect and maintain HVAC systems. They’re also responsible for installing electrical components and wiring, testing HVAC systems and repairing defective parts.

Employment of HVAC technicians is expected to grow four percent from 2019 to 2029, driven by the growth of commercial and residential construction.1  There are a variety of career options you can pursue with HVAC technician training, including working for contracting firms, air conditioning companies and refrigeration appliance installation and repair.2

Remington College’s HVAC diploma program and HVAC degree program offer students the chance to study HVAC systems and experience the hands-on skills needed to successfully maintain these systems. The programs are offered in a hybrid format, meaning they combines HVAC training online with instructor-led labs at Remington College.

Pharmacy technician courses online
If you envision yourself as part of the medical field and have great customer service skills, you might consider pursuing a pharmacy technician degree. Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists dispense medications to customers or health professionals and mainly work in retail pharmacies or hospitals.

Employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to grow by four percent from 2019 to 2029, driven by an increased demand of medication from the aging population and people with chronic diseases.1 With pharmacy tech training, possible career paths include working in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, retail pharmacies and more.2

Remington College’s pharmacy tech program exposes students to the basic elements of the field, such as medical abbreviations, prescription writing, drug forms and more.

Online graphic design courses
Do you have a creative spirit? Turn your passion into a career with a digital graphic art degree.2 Graphic designers have a vast array of duties including creating visual elements such as logos, designing website layouts and working with clients to perfect final designs.

There are many different employment opportunities graphic designers can pursue such as freelancing, joining the staff of a publishing outlet or working in an advertising agency. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of graphic designers in computer systems designs and related services is projected to grow as companies continue to increase their digital presence.1

Graphic artist careers usually require post-secondary education and  Remington College’s online graphic design degree allows students to earn an associate degree in as few as 18 months.2, 3

Online criminal justice degree
With a criminal justice degree, you might have the opportunity to pursue a number of careers such as a police officer, detective, security guard and more.2

Employment of police and detectives is projected to grow five percent from 2019 to 2029, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.1 The demand for more police services to maintain and improve public safety is leading to a need for more officers.1

If you already hold an associate degree, Remington College’s Criminal Justice online bachelor’s completion degree  can be completed in as few as 18 months.3 This program gives students the opportunity to study criminal justice theory and practical techniques then apply them to real-world situations. Topics covered in the program include contemporary corrections practices, investigative methods, crime intelligence and more.
